Daily value (DV) is a dietary reference to help you plan a healthy overall diet. The reference is used on nutrition labels for food products regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). The labeling plan was devised so that the nutrition label information can be easily seen on the product, understood, and utilized in planning your daily diet.
Daily Value (DV) is made up of two sets of references, DRVs and DRIs.
DRVs (Daily Reference Values): A set of dietary references that applies to fat, saturated fat, cholesterol, carbohydrate, protein, fiber, sodium, and potassium.

**DRV for protein does not apply to certain populations. Recommendations for protein have been established for
these groups: children 1 to 3 years = 13 grams; children 4 to 8 years = 19 grams; children 9 to 13 = 34 grams; infants
under 1 year = 14 grams; pregnant and lactating women = 71 grams.
DRIs (Dietary Reference Intakes): A set of dietary references for adequate intake levels, tolerable upper
intake levels, and estimated average requirements of essential nutrients based on the Recommended Dietary
Allowances (RDAs).*** The amounts are for adults over age 19 (unless otherwise noted) per day (/d).
